Good evening! Students began learning about ballpark estimating in Math today. It is a hard concept to grasp, and we will continue to go over it tomorrow for more practice. Since we did not get to talk about estimating with 100s, students should only complete 1-10 on their Home Link 4.8 tonight. They will complete 11 and 12 tomorrow. Students should also read their Phonics Reader.

Good evening! Since next week is only 3 days, we will not be doing a story from Scott Foresman. Students will have Thanksgiving spelling words with a test on Wednesday. We will also be focusing on our Reader's Theater on the solar system. Please keep practicing with your child at home each night. We will begin Unit 2 in Social Studies on Monday. Tests will be sent home Monday after we discuss it in class. In Math, students will be focusing on frames and arrows with 2 rules, exchanging money, and making change. Unit 3's test will be on Wednesday, November 30. We will review in class Tuesday and a study guide will be sent home.

Good evening! We will begin a Reader's Theater on our solar system tomorrow. Students have a copy of the script here at school and one has been sent home so they can practice each night. Please sit with your child for a few minutes each day and help them memorize their lines. We will be performing our skit on December 9.

K-Kids is running a food drive to help the local food pantry for the holidays. Any donations of nonperishible food would be greatly appreciated.

For homework tonight, students should complete Home Link 3.4 and use each spelling word in a sentence.

Good evening! We have completed Unit 1 in our Social Studies book. We will start Unit 2 tomorrow. We will be studying geography. We have also been using a new approach to Language Arts called Active Literacy. Students leave "tracks" of their thinking during reading using sticky notes. When students have a question or learn something new, they write it down on the note and mark the page with it. Each student will need about 3 packs of regular sized sticky notes to use during class. We are also looking for willing parents to donate wet ones or hand wipes for the classroom. We would greatly appreciate it.

For homework tonight, students should complete Home Link 3.3 and read their Phonics Reader. The students also made clocks to keep at home and practice. Please practice with them for a little bit each day to reinforce telling time to the hour, half-hour and five minute interval.

Good morning! The students have been working hard these past few days. We began our study of bats and caves, we have been learning about ducks and ducklings, and we are halfway done with our model communities! We will be starting our Flat Stanley project November 1. 2s would greatly appreciate if parents could send in an address (or addresses) of a relative who lives in a different state. We can't wait to see where our letters are going to travel!

On another note, for homework tonight, students should read their Phonics Reader and complete Home Link 2.6. When your child has finished reading, please ask him/her questions to check for comprehension. Some questions you may ask are:

Once they have completed their daily reading and they have written the title of the book and number of pages read, please sign your signature in the next column. Students chose an activity that they do well (baking a food, performing a lay-up, playing lacrosse,etc.) and had to explain how to perform the activity in a five paragraph essay. On June 6th and 7th, students will be presenting their topic to the class. Students should bring in all necessary materials to show us how to perform the task.
