Good afternoon! December has flown by so fast! There will not be a spelling, story, or grammar test the week that we come back from break. We will be starting a new unit in Math that week. Students will be  adding 3 numbers, working with number stories, and learning how to multiply for the first time. We will also be starting Unit 3 (History) in Social Studies. Ms. Davidson will continue to use this blog for updates. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, and I will see you in April.

Good afternoon! This week in Language Arts we are working on using context clues to figure out new words and working with r-controlled a in words, such as car, start, star, etc. We have started Unit 5 in Math. It is a short unit and we skip around a bit so your child's homework may not be in chronological order. We will be reviewing for our next Math test this Friday and next Monday. Our Math test will be on Tuesday, December 18. Also, please remember our Unit 2 Social Studies is this Thursday, December 13. Please continue to help your child study the material.

Good evening! 2S has a very busy week next week! On Monday we will have our Unit 2 Skills Test for Language Arts. On Tuesday we will be going to the Holiday Shop. Please send money in with your child in the envelope that was sent home if you would like him/her to purchase something. On Wednesday we will have our Unit 2 Word Wall Test. Please keep studying the spelling of those words with your child. A list of words was sent home last week. On Tuesday and Thursday we will also be reviewing for our Math Test on Friday, December 6. Study guides will be sent home. And finally, a study guide was sent home yesterday, November 29 for our Unit 2 Social Studies Test. This test will not be until December 13, but please continue to help your child study the material.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. In Language Arts this week we will be working on words that have -ge, -ce-, and -se endings, like cage, mice, and tease. Please practice these word endings with your child. In Math we are working on estimating costs and temperature. Next Monday we will have our Unit 2 Skills Test in Language Arts, and on Wednesday, December 5, we will have our Unit 2 Word Wall Test. Please practice the spellings of these words with your child each night. A list went home last week.

Good evening! The weeks are flying by and the end of the first marking period is next Tuesday already! Next week we will be focusing on r-controlled vowels in Language Arts, the sun in Science, the upcoming election in Social Studies, and counting money and frames and arrows in Math.

2S is currently looking for donations of hand wipes such as Wet Ones and disinfecting wipes such as Lysol or Clorox. If you would be willing to donate any of these please send them in with your child. It is greatly appreciated!

Good evening! The students have their first Math assignment tonight. Today we talked about comparing numbers using less than, greater than, or equal to. When your child reads the numbers to you, please be sure he/she is reading from left to right, not saying the bigger number first if it is the smaller number that comes first. Students should complete Home Link 1.11 for their Math homework. They do not have to complete numbers 1-3. For spelling homework, students should write their words three times each.

Good afternoon! The Scholastic Book Fair is tomorrow. If you would like your child to make a purchase, please send in the money tomorrow. Please make sure it is in an envelope labeled with his or her name on it.

Please write the other words on the same page, making sure your child skips a line between each word. The spelling notebook should be returned each day with your child's completed homework still attached to the book. Please do not rip it out.

Good evening! We have finished Scott Foresman and Everyday Math! We will have our Unit 6 Benchmark Test for Language Arts tomorrow and our End of the Year Math Assessment on June 7. Our culminating Word Wall Test will be June 11 and 12 while Unit 6 Word Wall Test will be June 6. We will continue to read our novels and practice basic math concepts for the next two weeks.

The only homework for tonight is to study Word Wall words and study for the Math test.

Good evening! Don't forget, tonight is Ocean Night! Ms. Lunghi and I will be doing an experiment in my room from 6:00-6:45.

Next week we will be reading our last Scott Foresman story. We will be focusing on words that are spelled with -ear, -our, and -tion. We will also be focusing on writing a persuasive letter and using suffixes. Our Unit 6 Benchmark Test will be given on June 4. Our Unit 6 Word Wall Spelling Test will be on June 6.

We will also have a Word Wall Spelling Test that covers the words the students have learned throughout the year. This test will be given on June 11 and 12. A letter will be sent home tomorrow with all of the words.

In Math, we will finish Unit 12. Our Unit 12 Test will be used as a review and students will only take the End of the Year Assessment, not the Unit 12 Test. The End of Year Math Assessment will be given on June 7.

Good evening! Our plant unit has come to an end, but your child should be able to describe the 4 basic parts of the plant and what they do. We put some radish and lima bean seeds into clear freezer bags to see the process a plant goes through. If your child's seed has not sprouted, please make sure the paper towel is damp and left in a sunny spot. If your child's seed has sprouted, they may plant it in soil if they would like. The seeds do not have to come back, but I can't wait to hear if any of the lima bean seeds sprout over break since only one set of those seeds did in class. Have a great break. Next week in Language Arts we will be working on the long a sound using eigh and ei. Students should continue practicing spelling words with more than one syllable. We have practiced clapping out the word into syllables and then spelling each syllable. Each syllable has a vowel sound.

Good evening! This week we are introducing spelling multisyllabic words. In class we practiced clapping words into syllables, and then spelling each individual syllable. Students should remember that each clap needs to have a vowel when they write it out.

Good evening! We are still collecting canned soup and bars of soap for the food pantry. We appreciate all that has been sent in so far!

Next week we will be working on words with the short e sound. The words will contain the vowels ea (ex: bread, breath, head, etc.). In Math, we will be working on complements of ten, doubles and halves, weights, and collecting data. We will also start Unit 3 in Social Studies. We will learn about history.

Happy Groundhog Day! Today we discussed the body temperature of a mammal compared to that of a mammal that is hibernating. The normal temperature of a mammal is about 99 degrees. One that is hibernating is only 43 degrees! We then put ice into water until it was 43 degrees and wrote about if we would be comfortable sleeping in that temperature. The kids had a blast! Tomorrow we will continue talking about chemical reactions and how things change when introduced to the cold or heat. We will be doing a science experiment using pudding!

Pizza Hut reading certificates went out today. Please send your child's reading log in tomorrow if you have not do so already. On that note, I am sorry to say the Phillipsburg Pizza Hut has closed. Though you cannot eat-in at the one in Hackettstown, they will honor your certificate.

Good evening! Our Unit 5 Math test will be on Tuesday, January 17. We reviewed in class, and a study guide has been sent home. Please go over this with your child.

During the week of January 17, we will be completing Unit 3 in Language Arts. Our Unit 3 Benchmark Test will be Monday and Tuesday, January 23 and 24.

Good afternoon! Students have a study guide for our Unit 2 Social Studies in their folders. Please keep this at home and go over it with your child so they are prepared for the test on Friday. We will be playing Jeopardy in class tomorrow for review! Our Unit 5 Math test will be on Tuesday, January 17. A study guide will go home Friday.

Good evening! We are almost finished with our second unit in Social Studies. The test will be next Friday! In Math next week, we will have our own Shape Museum. Please send in items from around the house that are cones, cubes, cylinders, or spheres. These could include soup cans, a party hat, a ball, dice, etc.

For homework tonight, students should use each spelling word in sentence and complete Home Link 5.3.
