Good morning! We will working on the following skills next week:

Language Arts: Spelling words base words with endings -s and -es, writing compound sentences, using prefixes pre- and mis-, and drawing conclusions. We will continue our poetry unit in  writing. We will be starting Unit 3 on Monday. Please look for the list of word wall words that  your child  will  need to know how to spell at the end of the unit and continue to practice each week as the flash cards come home.

Math-We will continue to learn how to subtract and how to regroup.

Science-We will learn about the planets.

Important dates:
Winter concert is Wednesday, December 17. Please have  your child arrive at 5:30.

Monday-3 times each, math worksheet 5.4
Tuesday-ABC order, math worksheet 5.5
Wednesday-Sentences, no math
Thursday-Study for spelling test, math worksheet 5.6

Good afternoon! Next week in Language Arts we will not have spelling homework, a spelling test, or a story test since we will be taking our unit tests. Please continue to practice reading and spelling the word wall words for Unit 2.

In Math we will have our test on Monday. Please study over the weekend. We will start Chapter 5 (subtraction) on Tuesday.

In Science we will learn about the stars.

The following is our homework schedule for next week:

Monday-Read for 15 minutes
Tuesday-Read for 15 minutes, math worksheet 5.1
Wednesday-Read for 15 minutes. There's no math due to the concert.
Thursday-Read for 15 minutes, math worksheet 5.2
Friday-Sunday-Read for 15 minutes.

Remember to continue to fill out your Read at Home Log and work on your book report.

The concert is on Wednesday and we will go to Holiday Shoppe on Thursday.

Good afternoon! We will be working on the following this week:

Language Arts- We will learn how to form contractions, words that compare using -er and -est, past tense and future tense verbs, we will write poems, and identify fact and opinion.

Math- We will add 3 and 4 numbers together and we will review for our unit test that we will have next Monday, December 8.

Science- We will learn about the sun.

Tomorrow is Spirit Day! Wear pink or school colors.


Next week we will take our Unit 2 Language Arts tests. We will take our reading tests on Monday and Tuesday. Due to concert practice, we will take our Word Wall spelling test on Thursday, December 11.

Language Arts-base words and endings -ed and -ing (including dropping the final e), words with the consonant/vowel pattern, understanding characters, summarizing, and synonyms.

Science- We will begin our space unit. We will learn about the moon.

Language Arts: Base words and endings -s, -ed, and -ing, spelling words with consonant digraphs (th, sh, wh, ch, tch), identifying main ideas and details, and using verbs.

Math: We will start unit four, and will focus on two-digit addition.

Social Studies: We will have our test on unit two on Thursday, November 13. Please continue to study the study guide that was sent home last week.

Happy Halloween!

Next week will be a review week in Language Arts. There will not be spelling words to study or a story test.

Good afternoon! Mrs. Pashaian and Mrs. Sandorff have been chosen to be our class chaperones for our trip to the planetarium on November 25. All parents are welcome to follow the bus or meet us there. The cost is $13 for parents.

Next week in Language Arts we will work on spelling words with double consonants at the end and -ck. We will also work on writing narratives and capitalizing proper nouns.

In Math we will work on using drawings to represent problems, equal groups, and repeated addition (the beginning of multiplication). We will complete our first test review on Friday. Our Unit 3 test will be the following Tuesday.

We will begin Unit 2 in Social Studies. We will be learning about Earth.

Our homework schedule is as follows:

Monday: 3 times each, Lesson 3.8 worksheet
Tuesday: ABC order, Lesson 3.9 worksheet
Wednesday: Sentences, 3.10 worksheet

Good morning! DRAs are completed. If you would like your child's DRA level, please email me and I will provide it for you. Also, you can check out the site http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/ to find a list of books on your child's level.

We have a very busy week next week in Language Arts. We will be taking our Unit 1 Benchmark Test in two parts. The first part will be given on Tuesday, and the second part will be given on Wednesday. We will have our Unit 1 Word Wall Test on Wednesday. Students must know how to spell and read these words.

Next week in Math we will have our Unit 2 Test on Wednesday, and begin Unit 3 on Thursday.

We will stray from Science for a week, and we will learn about Christopher Columbus in Social Studies.

Tuesday, September 23 is Picture Day.
Tuesday, September 23 will be our first math test. We reviewed today and will review again Monday. Look for these sheets in your child's blue folder.
Friday, September 26 will be our first Social Studies test. A study guide has been placed in your child's yellow Friday Folder.

We will work on the following skills next week:

Language Arts: Writing narratives, types of sentences, author's purpose, long a words.

Math: We will take our test and work on numbers to 1,000.

Social Studies: We will continue to work on learning about communities. We will review for Friday's test on Wednesday and Thursday.

Good afternoon! We had a great first full week of school in 2S! Beginning next Friday, the class will be able to earn "Friday Reward Time". For 15 minutes, students will be able to play an educational game or complete an activity with a partner. The students will rotate through the activities throughout the year.

The following items are what we will be working on next week:

Language Arts: Writing complete sentences, comparing/contrasting two things, words with short vowels o,u,and e, and writing narratives.

Math: Writing numbers different ways, problem solving, and counting patterns within 100 and within 1000. We will complete our first in-class test review on Friday. Our Chapter 1 Test will be the following week.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about different communities.

Please remember that on Mondays students should write their spelling words three times each, on Tuesday the words should be written in ABC order, on Wednesday each word should be used in a sentence and underlined, and on Thursday your child should study for their test they will have on Friday.

Good morning! This week in Language Arts we are taking our Unit 6 Skills and Word Wall Tests. We will also learn how to write a story with paragraphs, and use a dictionary to check for word meanings.

Our End-of-the-Year Language Arts Skills Test will be on Monday, June 2. Our End-of-the-Year Word Wall Tests will take place on Wednesday, June 4 (A-M) and Friday, June 6 (N-Z).

This week in Math, we will be taking our Unit 12 Test on Wednesday. We will also review for our End-of-the-Year Test. This test will be given on June 2.

We continue to learn about Sandy Beaches in Science.

Please remember that your child's Read at Home Log and Book Report are due next Monday, June 2.

Good evening! I will not be in tomorrow and Friday because I will be chaperoning the archery trip to Kentucky. Students will still have their weekly tests on Friday.

Next week we will focus on spelling words with ch but when it makes the /k/ sound, like ache and stomach. We will also continue to focus on using commas in writing.

We will start Unit 12 in Math. It is a review unit.

We will focus on plants in Science.

Good evening! We are finishing up Unit 4 in Language Arts this week. We will take our Unit 4 LA Skills Test on Monday and Tuesday, and our Word Wall Test will be on Wednesday, March 12.

In Language Arts next week we will focus on identifying the main idea of a text and spelling multisyllabic words. The students have learned that when they get stuck on spelling a word when they write that they should clap it out into syllables. Then they should spell each syllable they hear. They are also reminded that every syllable gets a vowel. Please encourage your child to clap out words they have difficulty spelling as this will help them become more independent writers.

In Math we will continue our unit on measurement.

In Science the students will be learning about motion.

Good afternoon and welcome back! We did take our Unit 7 Math Test today. We will continue with the same Language Arts story and spelling words as last week. The only homework that students will have for Language Arts is to study for their test they will take on Friday.

We will begin our fractions unit in Math tomorrow. There will be Math homework tomorrow and Thursday.

We just started our Social Studies unit, and we completed the second lesson today. We do not have a date for the test yet. Keep checking the blog for updates!

Good evening! In Language Arts this week, we will be working on words that are spelled -eer and -ear. We are also working on identifying adjectives. In Writing Workshop, we are finishing our poetry unit, and we will be sharing our poetry books with Mrs. Hart's class on Thursday.

Good afternoon! This week in Language Arts we will be working on the vowel pattern oo and ou. We are also learning comparison words such as hotter and hottest. We will also be working on summarizing a story.

In Math we are focusing on learning how to multiply using arrays. Please continue to practice subtraction with regrouping at home.

We will finish our space unit this week and learn about the planets.

On Tuesday, January 21 we will have our Unit 2 Skills Test. We will have our Unit 3 Word Wall Test on Thursday, January 23.
