***We will go to Holiday Shoppe on Thursday, December 1. Please send in money on Thursday if you'd like your child to shop. On the back of the envelope provided from the PTA, please remember to write down the names of family members you'd like your child to buy for.

Week of November 21

***Our field trip is Tuesday, November 22. We are leaving here at 9:00. If you are following the bus to the planetarium, please be here, at the school, by 8:50.

***Wednesday is a 1:00 dismissal.

***We will not complete a Language Arts lesson. There will not be any spelling homework. Continue to work on book reports.

***The only homework will be on Monday. It is Math sheet 4.6.

Week of November 7

***Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are all half days due to conferences.
***Students need to wear sneakers on Monday. They will be having Gym, not Family Life.
***For the book report this month, students should be choosing a nonfiction book about space. It needs to have facts about their specific topic.
***Wednesday, November 9 will be Stall Day. Your child has a bag in his/her folder for any change you may want to donate.

In Language Arts, we will be reviewing skills taught so far this year. There will not be any spelling homework.

We will review for our Math test Monday, and the test will be on Tuesday, November 8. The only Math homework is on Monday, and it is to study for the test.

We will have our Social Studies test on Wednesday, November 9. Continue to look over the study guide that was sent home.

We will have our first unit test in Language Arts this week. Students read various stories and answer questions about the story. They also answer questions about sounds we've learned in our spelling lessons, and they will complete a writing on Thursday.

Our Unit 1 Word Wall spelling test is on Wednesday, October 19. Keep studying.

We will have our Chapter 2 Math Test on Wednesday, October 19.

Math-We will learn how to write numbers different ways, solving number stories, skip counting within 100 and 1000. We will complete our first review for Chapter 1's test on Friday. Chapter 1 test will be on September 27.

Social Studies-We will continue to learn about communities. Our test will be September 29.

Week of September 12

We had a great first week in 2S! All important dates, assignments, and skills we will work on for the following week can be found here. I blog every Friday.

*Back To School Night is Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00. I can't wait to meet everyone!

We will work on the following skills next week:
Language Arts- spelling short a and i words, subjects and predicates in sentences, writing narratives
Math-We will begin our first unit on addition.
Social Studies-Monday we will learn about Patriots Day, Tuesday-Thursday we will focus on different types of communities, and Friday we will learn about Constitution Day.

Students have homework Monday-Thursday. Next week's homework schedule is as follows:

Monday-Write every spelling word, including bonuses, three times each. Complete Math sheet 1.1.
Tuesday-Write spelling words in ABC order, complete Math sheet 1.2
Wednesday-Use every spelling word in a sentence. Spelling words should be underlined. Each sentence should have at least 5 words and include  capitals and ending marks. Complete Math sheet 1.3.
Thursday-Study for Friday's Spelling Test and complete Math sheet 1.4.

Make sure your child studies their Word Wall Words for the week. I will be giving sentence dictation on this year's spelling tests using at least 4 of the Word Wall Words.

Keep working on those book reports. They are due October 3.

Week of June 6

We will take our final round of benchmark tests in Language Arts next week. We will also be reading and analyzing a book called Exploring Space Travel. There will not be any spelling words.

We will be reviewing various concepts taught throughout the year for the following week.

Spirit Day is Tuesday, June 7. Wear MARE attire or school colors.

Friday is Field Day. Please send in a water bottle. Students should put sunscreen on before they get to school. Don't forget to have your child bring a towel and wear an appropriate bathing suit under their clothing.

Week of March 21

Spelling books are being sent home today. If for some reason we get a snowstorm and school is cancelled on Monday, students should still complete 3 times each. We will have a spelling and story test on Thursday!

We will be learning how to measure in centimeters in Math.

In Science we will be learning about Spring.

We will work on the following skills this week:

Language Arts-make predictions throughout a story, use pronouns, add -ed and -ing to base words where you need to double the final consonant (clap is clapped/clapping, run is running, skip is skipped/skipping, etc.), writing a narrative. Our spelling and reading test will be on Thursday!

Math-We will continue to count money and tell time.

Science- We will learn about motion.

Monday-Math sheet 7.6 and 3 times each
Tuesday-Math sheet 7.6 (Enrich) and ABC order
Wednesday-Math sheet 7.7 and sentences. Also study for spelling test.

Week of February 1

Book reports are due Monday, February 1. If your child wishes to dress as the famous person that was researched, please come dressed on Tuesday, February 2! Book reports will not be presented on Monday!

We will be taking our Unit 3 Benchmark Tests in Language Arts on Monday and Tuesday. We will have our Word Wall Spelling Test on Wednesday. There will not be any spelling homework this week.

In Math we will continue to learn how to count money. Continue to practice at home as well.
