Good evening! Since this is a short week, there will not be a spelling test. Tonight's home is as follows:
*Read The Giver chapters 22 and 23.
*Vocabulary definitions are due Wednesday. Students will have the break to study their words. The test will be on January 4. Layer A projects are also due January 4.
*There will be a final test on The Giver on Wednesday.

*Language Arts*
Good evening! Students have been doing an excellent job in our group discussions about The Giver by Lois Lowry. Layer C of their required assignments are due Monday, December 14. The assignments are on a project sheet similar to the sheets from their previous novel. Layer B will be due December 21, and Layer A will be due on January 4. Book projects are due December 23. These were handed out November 30.

*GATE*

Students should remember to bring a notebook and pencil with them to class. We will be doing a lot of writing with our science experiments!

Good afternoon! Next week students will be starting the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry. Students will receive a packet similar to the one that was given from our last novel. Students will learn how to write a business letter, and they will complete various projects. Packets will be handed out on Monday.

1. Plural noun turkey activity
2. Practice lines for Reader's Theatre skit
3. Hand in typed copy of 1930's report with bibliography. All the students need for the bibliography is the name of the website where they retrieved their information.

Friday-Sunday- Students should have a rough draft of their 1930's report completed for Monday, November 23.




*GATE has begun! Students in the Gifted program will be focusing on Science this marking period. At the end of the marking period, students will choose a random item from my bag and create a new invention for it. More details to follow.

Good evening! It has been a pleasure speaking with parents the previous two days. The first marking period is over, and I am proud of each of the students for their accomplishments. Next week in Language Arts we will be starting a research paper on the 1930's. Students will choose a topic from a specific list. We will also be starting Unit 2 in the Scott Foresman series. Spelling and vocabulary lists will be sent home Monday. Enjoy the long weekend!

Good Evening! Today in language arts the students were introduced to the books they will be reading for literature circles. Each day the groups will discuss what they found intersting, new words they learned during their reading, and other aspects of the story they can relate to or find important. This week's homework is as follows:
Monday- Missing May chapter 1 or Bud, Not Buddy chapters 1 and 2 Use each spelling word in one sentence.

Tuesday-Missing May chapter 2 or Bud, Not Buddy chapters 3 and 4 Write a paragraph using at least 15 spelling words.

Wednesday- Missing May chapter 3 or Bud, Not Buddy chapters 5 and 6 Brainstorm 3 idioms. (Grammar) Write each spelling word 3 times

Thursday- Missing May chapter 4 or Bud, Not Buddy chapter 7 Write a paragraph using at least 2 idioms. (Grammar) Study for spelling test

Friday- Bring in a shoe box on Monday if your child is interested in making a cardboard village project.

Good Evening! The students are doing a great job combining short, choppy sentences this week! Tomorrow is the weekly vocabulary quiz, and Friday will be the Selection Test and Spelling Test. The rest of the week's homework is as follows:
Wednesday: Practice Book page 47, Spelling p 19, and Grammar Practice Book p 23, Read at least 15 minutes

Thursday: Study for Spelling Test, SW p20, Practice Book p48, Grammar Book p 24, Read at least 15 minutes.
